Prayer from Glenn Clark

4/14/2019

Picture Dr. Glenn Clark
Glenn Clark wrote a wonderful book on prayer called Two or Three Gathered Together.  It was published in 1953 with a second edition in 2005. It closes with the following prayer:

Our Heavenly Father,
Knowing that Thou art the God of Love, Giver of every good and perfect gift, and that Thy Love is the greatest of all drawing powers, infinite, eternal, and irresistible, drawing all things into perfect harmony and perfect fulfillment, we give ourselves completely into Thy Hands.  Take us, mold us, shape us into channels for expressing Thy will.
Knowing that where two or three come together and agree, asking anything in the consciousness of Oneness with Jesus Christ, that their prayer will be answered, we especially pray for the spirit of Christ's Love to take such complete control of our hearts that we may be able to pray for a peace that will be a blessing both to our friends and to our enemies; for a prosperity that will begin in the soul and extend to the needs of the mind and body as well; and finally that there will be raised up men of vision in places of power who will bring the spirit of Christ into all walks of life, so that the Prince of Peace may be ruler in all the councils of nations, and in the hearts of men everywhere.
In Christ's Name, Amen.

Note that in 2005, reference to "men" in this context was ungendered.  Today we pray for both "men and women."

January 2019 Coordinator's Report by Carolyn Miller

2/19/2019

JANUARY 31, 2019: UNITED PRAYER TOWER

VISION: (One in Jesus)
MISSION: (Uniting in prayer around the world)
SCRIPTURE: (1st Timothy 2: 1) "First, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for everyone." (read verses 1-6 for full understanding of this Scripture passage)

United Prayer Tower is "Prayer Arm" of North America CFO and CFOI (International). The statements above, describing our Vision and Mission, blend perfectly well with our chosen Scripture reference. We are called to pray, to stand in the gap for the furtherance of God's Kingdom in and through CFO events worldwide. God called Nehemiah to pray and help Jewish people move forward with the plan God had for them. Likewise, UPT is to keep moving forward with God’s intentional plan for furtherance of CFO Worldwide.

Recently, Holy Spirit brings to my heart Theme and Scripture of 2019 CFO North America Annual Meeting: LISTEN! John 10: 27 (ESV) “My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me.”  I challenge each of us to ponder Jesus’ words in John chapter 10 and other Scripture references on “listening”.

I believe in 2019 Holy Spirit is calling UPT to “Listen with great intensity” waiting upon Holy Spirit guidance in our personal times of prayer, together in our UPT weekly prayer call, during CFO Events, continuing to pray as “One in Jesus”.

PRAISING GOD FOR…
  1. UPT Council Ring Members coming from all Zones in North America, along with ex-officio members including Dana Belmonte (CFOI Coordinator), Johnson Thomas (CFOI President), Tina Bracken (CFO North America), Carolyn Miller (UPT Coordinator)
  2. UPT weekly Prayer Call being a time of truly bonding together in prayer.
  3. Witnessing God’s Hand in answers to prayer.
  4. UPT Website (Thanking Gary Fick for web design, adding new information, care-taker of website, that many people are checking out UPT website)
  5. Variety of UPT Pamphlets (Thanking Matt Leach for design and printing)
  6. UPT financial needs met in 2018
  7. WE BELIEVE: “PRAYER IS THE MIGHTIEST FORCE IN THE WORLD”
LOOKING AHEAD TO GOD’S PLANS IN 2019??? (Carolyn’s thoughts)
  1. Possibility of developing “Prayer Resource” Packets for all Prayer Hosts/Hostesses, to be distributed at 2019 NA CFO Annual Meeting?
  2. Making “Prayer Resource” Packets available (if needed) for CFOI Prayer Hosts/Hostesses to be distributed at Oct. 2019 CFOI Board Meeting?
  3. Establishing contacts in CFOI Regions so as to receive prayer requests and praise reports from around the world?
  4. Is there a way God wants UPT to be on Social Media?
  5. Seeking God to know if UPT is to be sending Prayer Requests/Praise Reports to a larger CFO/CFOI Audience (how that might work?)
  6. How about inviting past UPT Council Ring members (as non-voting members) to join us on our weekly UPT Prayer Call?

In closing I will share with you “Qualifications of the Fisher of Men”
(Gleaned from Glenn Clark’s book “Fishers of Men”, Chapter VII)
  1. The “Fisher of Men” must, first of all, be humble.
“It is a humility that manifests itself in transparency. The transparent person is filled with goodness---the goodness of Christ, who said ‘Why call me good? None is good save one, even God’? The transparent person is filled with power---the power of Paul, who said, ‘I glory in my weaknesses, that the strength of Christ may rest upon me…when I am weak, then am I strong.’”
  1. Second requirement of the Fisher of Men is courage. “The call to the saving of men is a call to high adventure. Courage and humility, (although seemingly in direct opposition), are in reality closely allied, the opposite halves of the same circle.
  2. Move on with God in prayer. “If you are laying foundations for a civilization that will never fail, if you are transparent and courageous knights of the new Kingdom of the Spirit, you are building for a kingdom whose foundations are already laid in eternity and whose limits can be measured only by the infinitude of the stars. Ride into the Kingdom of Heaven. You will find it only in the hearts of men. This new continent you are penetrating is the continent of human souls”.

Giving thanks to God for His Gift of PRAYER and that we are “Fishers of Men”.

Termites

11/20/2018

A parable by Matt Leach - shared in September 2018

There once was a man who built a beautiful home. It was everything he had ever wanted his home to be. It had cost him everything. His mortgage payments and the upkeep of the house left him with little extra. But it was worth it.

Being a prudent man, he knew he needed to protect his house. He bought fire insurance and insurance against every possible calamity that might strike. That is, all except for one minor little inconsequential nuisance: termites. But that was okay because he had bought and stored in his garage enough termite poison to protect his home several times over.

To right and left, and in front and in back of his home, can be seen home after home like his. Well, not exactly like his as every home owner had his own tastes and preferences, which made all the houses distinct and different. But one thing was always the same. Every home was fully insured, and every home had lots and lots of termite poison stored in their garages.
Now it so happened that one morning, when the man stepped outside and turned to admire his beautiful home, he noticed that it had started to lean just slightly. “It’s just settling,” he told himself, and added, “I’ll probably have to fix a few cracks in the walls one of these days.”

“One of these days” came a bit sooner than he had expected. A few days later he left home in a hurry and unintentionally slammed the door behind him. As he did his beautiful home gave an enormous shriek and shudder and came crashing to the ground in a gigantic heap of sawdust! Before he could react to his calamity he heard the same kind of shrieking and shuddering come from every other home as far as his eyes could see.

The man and his neighbors were stunned by the devastation. No one had seen it coming. There had been no warning signs. They sat on the curbs and wondered. It was then that a little boy, playing in the rubble, held up a piece of wood that was riddled with holes going this way and that, and shouted out, “Look at the funny squiggle holes!” It was then that the man realized three things:

First, termites do not announce their arrival.
Second, termites work in secret, creating their destruction unnoticed.
Third, termite poison does no good if you do not use it before the termites arrive.

The beautiful homes are the churches we have erected with a myriad of names and a variety of denominational positions, practices and emphases. Each has been strong and served a noble purpose. Common to each is the existence of a vicious and diabolical enemy whose will is set on evil and whose goal is to destroy. Common to each church is the power of prayer and the authority of the believer. This latter for too long we have treated like the termite poison and it sets unused. Evil works hidden, doing its damage unseen. When attacked before it does its damage evil flees from us in terror, as termites flee from the poison.

God is calling us to warfare before evil destroys our nations, our churches, and our freedoms. Already we see evil flaunting God’s laws and getting legislation passed that ultimately will make being a Christian and practicing our faith unlawful. It is already happening. We need to marshal our authority as believers and march into battle.

Daily Affirmation to Pray

8/7/2018

Picture
CFOer and friend from New Zealand, Frank Rigg, sent this affirmation to Carolyn Miller and she is passing it on.
Frank shares...

"It is important that the following affirmation be USED DAILY, saying it ALOUD, so that it gets down into the unconscious mind where the healing and release is needed. Frequent use will release faith and allow God to fulfill the deepest desires of your soul."

AFFIRMATION...
Thank You Father, that You love me...
Thank You, Jesus, that You came.

By Your blood you have redeemed me...
And by Your stripes I am healed.

I accept that You love me.

I accept Your perfect forgiveness and cleansing from all past sin. Because You love me and accept me just as I am, I can accept myself...
and love myself.

I am whole and perfect in Your love.
Thank you, Father for Your Holy Spirit who continues to minister to my deepest needs...
Healing all past hurts, renewing me and releasing me into the perfect freedom of the Children of God.

I thank you, Lord for Your Guidance, Protection, and Provision...and for Your Strength for TODAY.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
PRAISE THE NAME OF JESUS!

The Unconventional Warfare of Prayer

7/6/2018

(Taken from "The Seedbed Daily Text"...July 4th, 2018)

Exodus 17: 8-15 (Key Verses: 8-9)

The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”

Consider This...In today’s text we see a picture of what intercession looks like. In the blue corner we have the attacking Amalekites. In the red corner we have Joshua and the Israelites. On top of the hill we have General Moses and two Lieutenant Colonels in Aaron and Hur.
Traditional military strategy would tend to put all the emphasis on Joshua and his army. This battle seems to rise and fall on other factors; namely the position of Moses’ staff. When his staff is raised up, Israel prevails. When the staff is lowered, Israel loses ground. The staff is not magic, rather it is a symbol of the power of God.
As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.  When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. Exodus 17:11-12.
Why didn’t God sovereignly cause Israel to win the battle? I think it’s because God wills to work with, in, and through people. Intercessors, servants who stand between God and people, play key roles in the Kingdom of God.
It’s interesting how Moses is not on the battle field yet he plays the determinative role in the battle. Moses does nothing of apparent significance or perceived strategic importance. He raises a piece of wood in the air. Moses participates in the most essential secret strategy of identifying himself completely with God.He stands in a place where he can take no credit for the outcome yet without his standing there the outcome would go the other way.
In this way, intercessors occupy the most secret and most strategic place of all in the economy of God’s Kingdom. Their job description, if you will, is to identify so completely with the interest of the Holy Spirit in any given assignment they receive. They can tend to lose touch with their own interest. As a result, intercessors can tend to be some of the most misunderstood people in the Kingdom. And yes, they can be more than a little bit weird at times.

While intercessory prayer is a general and broad practice in the church, the role of intercessor is unique and quite specific. It is both a gifting and calling. You tend to know it if you have it. It can’t be taught, but it can be trained.
They exemplify and embody two texts from the New Testament in extraordinary ways.

“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:6.
“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” 2 Corinthians 4:7.
There is another role identified in the text that seems equally critical to the role of the intercessor. Let’s call it the intercessors for the intercessor. Aaron and Hur came alongside Moses and supported him in his intercessory role. In fact, had they not held up his arms, Israel would have lost the battle.
All of this reveals to us the nature of the Body of Christ. No one's role or assignment is more important than anyone else’s, yet each is uniquely significant and strategic. No Joshua = no victory. No army = no victory. No Moses = no victory. No Aaron and Hurr = no victory. Victory came from God through all of them working together in a powerfully unified fashion. In the Body of Christ there is no support staff. Everyone is a servant.

One more word about Aaron and Hurr. Everyone needs an Aaron and Hurr in their life and everyone needs to be an Aaron and Hurr in someone else’s life. Galatians 6:2 says, “Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. (ESV).

Finally, note the way Moses celebrated the victory. I’m sure he expressed gratitude to Aaron and Hurr and high-fived Joshua and his warriors. It would have been tempting for Moses to take a little credit and share in the glory, especially after being so vociferously criticized earlier. He resisted that temptation.
verse 15 Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner.

The Prayer... Lord Jesus, you are right here, right now. You are my banner. Teach me the meaning of this truth and grace me with the humility to live and move and have my being underneath this banner. Right here, Jesus. Right now, Jesus. Amen.

Sent to UPT by Charlie Grassl to share with all CFOers.

How Does Prayer Work?

5/19/2018

Picture
Arrows of the Almighty
from Jim Brunner Ministries
May 19 2018

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of him" (1 John 5:14-15 NIV).

How does Prayer work? Satan tells you it's a waste of time. But it does work because God is in control. That's why there are miracles - because His will always prevails. Yes, asPsalm 33:11 declares, "But his plans endure forever; his purposes last eternally" (Psalm 33:11 GNT).
God's unlimited resources are available to you. Twenty times in the New Testament it says, "Ask." You may not be able to change a situation, but you can pray and in His time God can and will change it. In the mean time He has changed you!
So, you ask, "If God is in control and is loving why don't I get the answers I want?" Look, God is in control; we are not. You do not give your child everything he wants. He does not know what's good for him. You and I are His children being taught His ways through faith in Christ.
I learned years ago many Christians when praying for the same thing want different results. We need to trust Him not our own desires. God's answers are always best! As 1 John 5:14-15 NIV says, "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of him" (1 John 5:14-15 NIV). That's exactly how Jesus prayed: "Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine" (Luke 22:42NLT).
Prayer works. It isn't a waste of your time. God is in control, and He wants to hear your prayers - He is listening!

A Prayer for CFOers

1/23/2018

Martha Dobra shared this prayer sent to CFOers in 2012 by Jane Kampsnider.  It is always good to pray this way.

Lord, I invite Your Holy Spirit to refresh CFO in this hour.  Bring new life to us.  Show us Your will and Your way.  You are the Way, the Truth and the Life.  No one comes to the Father except through You.  Be real to us.

Give us grace for one another.  Give us fruitfulness in our meetings.  Help us not to do the same old thing out of habit and tradition.  Give us fresh, new creativity and vibrant faith.  Give us wisdom, knowledge, understanding, revelation, eyes to see and ears to hear.  Help us be in the river of Your love.  We want to experience Your Kingdom like never before.

Your Kingdom is at hand.  We choose to walk in it to the fullest extent we can.  Send Your ministering angels to go before us and prepare the way.  Send warring angels.  God, help us rest in You and not strive to get to the next level.  Help us have Your heart for one another and for CFO.

Give us boldness and wisdom as we pursue You and Your Kingdom.  Your Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.  We are victorious over-comers, bought with the blood of the Lamb.  We are Your servants and Your ambassadors, Your workmanship, made in Your image to give You glory.  Give us minds prepared for action.  Help us set our hope fully on You.

Reveal Your glory in our midst.  Help us break out of the old and into the new.  May You be honored and glorified.  Help us honor one another. Stop any pettiness or bickering or quarreling among us.  We choose to be yoked together with You in prayer and have hearts of humility and thanksgiving.
Amen and Amen.
