Food For Thought
I am thinking on the scripture, “we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose? “Romans 8:28
How can bad things work for good? An explanation that I heard in church the other day made me ponder this.
The ingredients of a cake separately do not taste good. I do not enjoy eating plain flour or just salt or any one component of the ingredients that go into making a cake. Sugar is not even very good eaten alone. However, the ingredients mixed together and baked, make a cake that is very tasty and satisfying.
So, events in my life, good and bad, mixed together create a life that is rich and satisfying. That being said, would it follow that a life without trials and hard times would not be rich and full as our Father intended. I happen to even like cake batter before it is baked. However, I imagine that it is best if the plan is completed as it is meant to be and we find the end result is a wonderful cake with delicious frosting. (Perhaps you have heard of someone being described as “half baked.”
This brings me to a scripture that the Lord often causes me to remember, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” James 1:2,3
